Lawrence Leonard Jr.

MEREDITH — Lawrence F. "Buddy" Leonard Jr., 71, of Meredith, died Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at the Crestwood Center in Milford, with his sister, Cathy, by his side after a lifelong illness.

He was born on July 12, 1946, in Lynn, Massachusetts, the son of the late Lawrence F. Sr. and Dorothy (Flanders) (Leonard) Locke.

Buddy was a 1964 graduate of Swampscott (Mass.) High School and a graduate of Emerson School of Broadcasting in Boston. He worked both in radio and TV and had a recurring role in the network TV series "Room 222" and a radio show in Boston, “The Buddy Bauers Show.”

He was a bi-manager at both La Cipollina and The Ship’s Wheel, two well-known restaurants in the Lakes Region during the 1980s and '90s.

Buddy was always especially proud of having reached the level of Eagle Scout while with Troop 54 in Swampscott, Massachusetts. Wherever he went, he would make friends. He was known for his wit, bubbling personality, ability to charm and was always a gentleman … having a smile for everyone.

Memorable, good-natured, and witty describe him well.

He is survived by his sister, Catherine L. Bent of Milford; one niece, Robin Kibler of Jacksonville, Florida; and three nephews, Brad Bent of Milford, Jeff Bent of Sacramento, California, and John Prok of Jacksonville, Florida.

He was predeceased by his father, Lawrence F. Leonard Sr., his mother and stepfather, Dorothy and Edwin B. Locke; one sister, Beverly Prok; and two brothers-in-law, Ronald Prok and Frank Prok.

There will be no calling hours. Services will be private.
