LACONIA — Frances Marion (Sylvester) Boutilier died peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018, at the age of 93 while a resident at Presidential Oaks Nursing Home in Concord.
She was born Frances M. Sylvester on Sept. 25, 1924, in Brockton, Massachusetts, to parents Frank and Marion Sylvester. She spent her early childhood years growing up in Massachusetts before her family moved to Vermont where the Sylvesters owned and operated a local store in Jackson, Vermont. The family resided in nearby Essex Junction where Frances attended high school.
She graduated from New England Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Boston where she received her nursing degree and met her husband of 58 years, Gordon W. Boutilier of Whitinsville, Massachusetts. They began their lives living in the Massachusetts towns of Whitinsville, Natick and East Douglas where they raised three of their five children. The family then moved to New Hampshire where, in the town of Hudson, two more children were born and the family of seven spent the remainder of their lives. They spent many wonderful summers boating on Pawtuckaway Lake, Baboosic Lake and Lake Winnipesaukee until the couple retired in 1986.
Frances was a career nurse working at Nashua Memorial Hospital for nearly 20 years. She spent the last 10 years of her career at the Canal Street plant of Sanders Associates Inc. where she was the facility’s onsite nurse.
The couple maintained a residence in Laconia and wintered in Venice, Florida, for many happy years. Frances and Gordon became avid golfers in both states. After Gordon’s death, Frances lived year-round in Venice and continued to play weekly into her 93rd year. She was a formidable contender with her first hole-in-one in her late eighties. This was her passion. She returned to New Hampshire in February where she remained until her death.
She leaves three children, Robert Boutilier and his wife Sandra of Alton, Gail Henderson of Greenfield, and Joanne Robbins of Cambridge, Massachusetts; five grandchildren, Maryann Shepard, Lisa McNally, Eric Batchelder, Keith Batchelder and Brandon Batchelder; and 10 great-grandchildren, Kieran, Kelsey, DJ, Tristan, Autumn, Morgan, Desmond, Henry, Jack and Chandler.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon W. Boutilier; her brother, Roger Sylvester; her daughters Linda Hansen and Jeanne Selvaag; and her grandson, William Boutilier.
A Memorial Service will be held at the New Hampshire State Veterans’ Cemetery Chapel in Boscawen on Monday, Sept. 17, at 11 a.m.
Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia, is assisting the family with the arrangements. For more information and to view an online memorial, visit www.wilkinsonbeane.com.
