CANTERBURY — Derek Eugene Goss (D-Roc), 39, passed away peacefully Friday evening, Aug. 17, 2018, at Concord Hospital from a long battle with multiple pneumonias. He was surrounded by loving family as he went to be with the Lord.
Derek was born on April 1, 1979, in Peterborough. When he was two, the family moved to Hawaii where Derek was able to get around easily and swim, despite his disability (he now has long arms and straight legs). Derek graduated in 2000 from Laconia High School. He attended Florida Technical Institute in Deland, Florida, and received an associate’s degree in web design.
He was an incredible individual with a lust for life and was quite a firecracker. Derek was a singer, rapper, DJ, artist, chef, student of Tae Kwon Do and a friend to all. He will be truly missed. He was very special and from a wonderful and caring family that helped develop his uniqueness. People learned life lessons from Derek, about you don’t judge a book by its cover. He gave smiles and support to everyone he touched. He had many, many friends — too many to mention — and they hold Derek close in their hearts.
Surviving family includes fiance Briana Gardner; stepsons Parker and Hero of Franklin; brother Damon Goss of Canterbury; mother and stepfather Debi and Perry Kurz of Wentworth; father David Goss of Deland, Florida; aunt and uncle Dori and Jesse Clary; cousins Willow and Harrison Clary of McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania; Daley Buckwell of Kingston; aunt and uncle David (Dave) and Kathy Barter of Hopkinton; cousin April Barter of Nashua; second cousin Mary Elizabeth of Manchester; and cousin Sarah Bissonnette of Concord.
He was predeceased by fiance Diana (Dee) Grasso of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, in 2011.
A celebration of life will be held at First United Methodist Church, 18 Wesley Way in Gilford, on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 1 p.m., with a reception of remembrances there to follow. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to your charity of choice in Derek’s name. Burial or scattering of ashes will be announced at a later time.
