nter-Lakes teams up with Prescott Farm for environmental education

MEREDITH — During the 2016-17 school year, the Inter-Lakes School District is employing yet another strategy to promote active learning using the natural resources that surround the school to connect students with the community and its environment.

The school district has entered into a partnership with Prescott Farm Environmental Education Center to bring naturalist Will Robinson to Inter-Lakes Elementary School for approximately 150 hours over the course of the year. Robinson will be delivering lessons directly to the students as well as consulting with teachers in their planning process. His focus will be on "place-based education" which immerses students in local heritage, culture, ecology, landscapes, and experiences as a foundation for the study of language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, and other subjects. Place-based education encourages teachers and students to use the schoolyard, community, public lands, and other special resources.

The partnership with Prescott Farms is being fully funded by the Geralynn Anne Fountain Foundation. Fountain was a valued and loved member of Inter-Lakes Middle Tier as she worked as an educational assistant before she lost her battle with cancer. The generous contribution supported by Geralynn's husband, Stephen, and her daughter, Megan, allows ILES students yet another experience to enrich their learning.
