LACONIA — People interested in learning to play the Native American style flute can explore the possibilites at a free introductory presentation on Monday, Jan. 22, at 11:30 a.m. at the Lakes Region Creative Aging Center, 17 Church St. in Laconia. You will learn the difference between a Native American Flute and a Native American Style Flute, listen to a live performance, and view course materials and try out the flute that will be used for a course that will be starting Feb. 6.  See first-hand what the course will be about and gauge your interest! There is no charge for this introduction.

The flute classes will be held on Tuesdays from Feb. 6 to March 13, 11 a.m. to noon. The six-week course will include: learning to read music and to play "from the heart" without music; learning to play a respectable solo at the end of the class.

If you have your own A-minor native flute, you can use it. If not, you will be directed to an Amazon link in order to purchase a reasonably-priced flute, along with the course book. No prior musical experience is necessary. The cost is $90 for the six-week session.
