Ecological kayak tour on Squam Lake

Join the Squam Lakes Association on Saturday, Sept. 21 from noon to 3 p.m. for a guided kayak tour on Squam Lake. Hosted by Lakes Region Conservation Corps member Cole Beale, participants will enjoy an autumn afternoon kayaking to Cotton Cove, collecting water samples and learning about lake ecology. The kayaking tour will start at SLA Headquarters, 534 U.S. Route 3 in Holderness. The program was created with kids from age eight to 14 in mind, and all are welcome. The program is designed to get kids thinking about what things are in the water that cannot be seen. It will give them an inside look at water sampling procedures as well as give them an opportunity to learn about microorganisms. Kayakers should bring proper waterproof and quick dry clothing for the day, snacks and water. The paddle will be about two hours.
