Love and luck celebrated in the past two months

By BRENDA TWARDOWSKI

March sure has come in like a lion – it seems it might go out that way, too! We had a great February, celebrating love. For such a short month, it was fun-filled!

We had our first Annual Sweetheart Luncheon, inviting all our married couples to a romantic lunch in the Activity Room. It was well attended, and love was definitely in the air! The Salon offered "Glamour Shots" on Valentine's Day, and many people took advantage of getting "made up" and having their picture taken. It was so fun!

Our first ever Art Extravaganza was a success. We raised $420 for the Resident Council fund!

March has kept us hopping! Our theme for March was "Luck O' The Irish." We made two different Irish soda breads; we have great cooks! We listened to Irish music, made centerpieces for our St. Patrick's Day Party and for spring. We had baked potatoes and potato pancakes. We learned about famous Irish people. It was really all things Irish! March is National Nutrition Month and National Social Worker Month, so we want to give a special shout-out and thanks to our dietician, Rosanna Alvarez, and our social worker, Annette Griffis. Rosanna even played a special version of Nutrition Jeopardy that she made with the residents! Thank you Ladies for all you do for our facility!
April is coming up and we will be celebrating our version of Earth Day. We will be doing some indoor gardening, planting wild flowers and herbs. We will do some "green" trivia and hope to see signs of spring. Easter is coming up quickly, and as we typically do, family members who wish to, can have Easter Dinner with their loved ones.
The BCNH Shooting Star for January was Rachel Rutgers, LNA. Congratulations Rachel! The Shooting Star is a program to recognize staff members who go above the call of duty. Residents, visitors, family members, or staff can nominate someone they feel is deserving. They write up their nomination, drop it in the box, and one person is chosen each month. Thank you to all of our Shooting Stars for all the wonderful things you do for our residents and our facility!
Do you have some extra time? Want to join us? Come volunteer with us at Belknap County Nursing Home! Come help take the residents shopping or out to eat, do some crafts, read to someone, or just make a difference in someone's day. Volunteers are always wanted! Contact the Activity Department to sign up today!
