How Fire N' Stone quickly became the region's go-to stove and hearth store

Six years ago, local residents Angelo and Sarah Farruggia started a chimney cleaning and repair business based out of their home. Almost immediately, they recognized a need for a much broader service and retail operation. The result is Fire N' Stone, which has grown each year to become the region's premier full-service stove and chimney operation.

Angelo and Sarah started their small chimney cleaning and repair business out of their home in 2009 with the goal of providing the best chimney service in the area. Shortly after they opened, they found a very large need for chimney services in the Lakes Region and expanded, outgrowing a home based operation and opening a service location in Gilford.

Adding more service crews over the next year, they decided to embark on their next expansion – a showroom location with the best stoves and fireplaces available. This was a major need for the area in their eyes, as the Lakes Region had many great stove shops but none that provides all services from start to finish of a hearth project.

"Most of the other shops sell you the stove and the transaction is done. Some might have one install crew or a sub-contractor to do the install, but none provide in-house service after the sale for masonry, chimney cleanings and repairs leaving you to look for another outfit to complete those tasks," said Angelo. Their vision was to provide an experience where a customer could come in and have a new fireplace designed, purchased, installed, finished in stone, and annually serviced all under one roof by certified staff rather then dealing with different companies or sub-contractors to complete the job and for regular servicing.

With this plan began the search for a location. Angelo and Sarah wanted to keep the business local, as they both grew up in this area and started the business with the intent of providing the best service to the Lakes Region where they still reside. They found a great location to ease into the transition in Tilton. The storefront on Route 3 offered a great location as well as the chance to take an older, neglected building and restore it. Their first full season at that location was in 2010. Each year since, Angelo and Sarah have expanded their showroom with state of the art pellet, gas, and wood stoves and fireplaces as well as custom stonework.

As Angelo said, "If it's anything to do with fireplaces or masonry, we do it, and we do it the best". Technicians and showroom staff regularly attend trainings to keep up to date on current codes. Fire N' Stone is the only chimney business or stove shop in the area with staff that is certified through both the Chimney Safety Institute of America ( as well as the National Fireplace Institute ( "We find most other chimney businesses miss many safety hazards because they are not trained properly on what to look for and homeowners take their opinion as fact, since they are supposed to be the professionals, which leaves families unknowingly burning in unsafe conditions. Unfortunately New Hampshire does not require any licensing, training, or certifications to be a chimney technician or hearth installer which is scary. At Fire N' Stone all our technicians carry the certifications required in other states so we can provide you with the best service possible to protect your home and family," said Angelo. They also utilize video chimney scanning equipment so they can find things that the naked eye will miss. "We are invited into homes, we see the same people year after year helping them address their hearth and chimney needs and keeping their families warm and safe. We watch some of these families grow with the addition of a new family member and children growing up as we come back year after year. This is what we always envisioned, a local business with a personal touch. I know it sounds cliche but it honestly feels like they are not just customers but family, a part of the Fire N' Stone family", says Angelo.
