As a Gilmanton selectman, I will treat people the way I would like to be treated

  • Published in Letters

To The Daily Sun,

I am running for the position of selectman in the town of Gilmanton. I have owned MJW Dry Wall & Foam Insulation, LLC for over 15 years. I am no stranger to hard work – growing up, I have done a variety of jobs including having a paper route, dishwashing, farmhand, and even working for a summer on a lobster boat. I have been in the construction trades since I was 17. I believe in putting in hard work for an honest day’s wage; and I do understand the value of a dollar.

I believe in treating people the way I would want to be treated – with respect and honesty. I have a direct, common sense approach to challenges, and a good work ethic which has helped me be successful in my business.

I am a father of four beautiful children, three sons and a daughter. I moved to Gilmanton four and a half years ago. My wife and I absolutely love the area and the community along with the people in this town. I feel Gilmanton has a lot to offer all age groups and look forward to living here for a long time to come. Our dream is to watch our grandchildren grow up in this town one day.

If elected to the position of selectman, I would work to promote honesty, transparency, and good fiscal management with the goal of decreasing the tax burden felt by many citizens. I believe people need to stand up for what they believe. I have a very strong moral compass that helps to direct my thoughts. I feel that we live in the greatest country in the world and have a proud heritage of democracy. Everybody is entitled to their opinion and their vote. Although I may not always agree with that opinion, everybody has a right to have a voice that is heard and respected. Many issues can be worked out through open discussion if we maintain a climate of respect and professionalism. I will serve the citizens of Gilmanton with integrity. I tell my kids you're only as good as your word and you need to stand by what you say. .

In order to be able to be better educated regarding the responsibilities of the Board of Selectmen, I have purchased and been studying the rules and laws that govern this office. My goal is to represent all citizens of Gilmanton and be their voice. In order to make Board of Selectmen meetings more accessible to the citizens of the town, I bought a video camera and have been videotaping the meetings. If interested, the link to access the meetings is: (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtpXFTYzvniaff9X8OX4n-g ), or they can be found on the Gilmanton Facebook pages.

Please free to reach out to me if you have further questions or issues that concern you. I look forward to speaking with you!

Mike Wilson
