Adult and child fall from boat on Lake Winnipesaukee

WOLFEBORO - Two people were injured when they were thrown from their boat near Winter Harbor on Lake Winnipesaukee this evening.
Wolfeboro Fire-Rescue was called at 6 p.m. While the boat operator made it to shore and to a home on Forest Road, a 7-year-old wearing a life jacket was found floating near the mouth of Winter Harbor. The boat operator was found at 6:15 p.m. and brought to Huggins Hospital. The child was located at 6:34 p.m. at a home on Thomas Point in Tuftonboro. The child complained of hypothermia but was not taken to a hospital. Tuftonboro Fire-Rescue did evaluate the child's condition.
The empty boat, meanwhile, was traveling in circles and was secured by the New Hampshire Marine Patrol.

Gilford High School to be well-represented on All-State Football Team

Five members of the Gilford High School football team have been named to the NHIAA's Division III All-State teams.

Golden Eagles named to the First Team are: defensive lineman Sean Mulcahy, wide receiver Kyle Gaudet, linebacker Jackson Spooner, and kick/punt returner Max Troiano.

Named to the Second Team were quarterback Carter Mercer and, this time as a running back, Max Troiano.

Gilford's Zack Poison, a defensive lineman, received an honorable mention.

GIlford football's postseason run ends in Newport

Gilford headed to Newport on Saturday for the second time this season and came home with the same result, a loss. The Golden Eagles fell to Newport 38-22 in the DIII North Conference finals, ending the season 8-2. Penalties hurt Gilford throughout the game but were especially painful when flags caused two touchdowns to be called back. The Golden Eagles committed 13 penalties for 122 yards total, five of which were personal fouls.
Senior Max Troiano led the offense with 148 yards on 17 carries and a touchdown. Junior quarterback Carter Mercer threw for 242 yards on 15 completions with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Both of the Golden Eagle losses this year came in Newport. Gilford had the second seed in the North Conference with a 7-1 record. The Golden Eagles advanced to the conference championship game by beating Inter-Lakes-Moultonborough 28-13 the week prior. The Lakers had knocked Gilford out in the first round of the postseason last year.
