COLCHESTER, Vt. — Saint Michael's College baseball first-year pitchers Dylan Lavery (Billerica, Mass./Billerica Memorial) and Alex Winkelmann (Gilford, N.H./Tilton School) were both named to the Northeast-10 Conference All-Rookie Team on Wednesday. This marked the third consecutive year two Purple Knights landed on the squad, as six in all have earned the laurel since the program rejoined the league in 2012.
A left-handed hurler, Winkelmann's first three appearances were out of the bullpen before he made his final five outings as a starter, completing the season with a 3-2 record and a 4.76 ERA. He walked just 10 while striking out 22 in 34 innings, yielding only five extra-base hits. During six of his eight appearances, Winkelmann allowed two earned runs or fewer. He tossed 2.1 innings of one-hit, shutout relief in his college debut versus the University of Minnesota Duluth on March 16 before drawing his initial start at regionally-ranked University of New Haven on April 5.
Over his final four games, Winkelmann was 2-1 with a 3.75 ERA, walking just five and fanning 18 in 24 innings, despite two of the starts coming against nationally-ranked Southern New Hampshire.
Saint Michael's completed the year 7-25 overall and 6-19 in the NE-10, but went 4-3 in its final seven games.
