The Laconia U15 Lacrosse team recorded its first victory of the season on Sunday, as they played host to opponents from Hopkinton. Looking to shake off a rough scrimmage against Concord the day before, the young Sachems came out blazing. LSM Logan Bell started the fireworks, recording his first goal of the day about 2 minutes into the contest. It didn't take him long to record his second on the day, and then it was defenseman/LSM Drew Muzzey's turn. Scooping the ball in his own defensive zone, he raced coast to coast, dodging would-be defenders before firing a bullet top shelf to give his team a commanding 3-0 lead after the 1st quarter. The 2nd quarter was more of the same. The Laconia defense, led by Travis Adams and Brendan Sica, shut down the Hopkinton offense and allowed the play to stay in the Sachems' offensive end. Attackman Lawrence "the" Barbarian and Devon Miles both recorded their first goals of the season and the Sachem's had a 5-1 halftime lead. There was no let up in the Sachem game as the second half started. Bell fired home his third on the day for the season's first hat trick. Middie Kaleb Bartlett was able to find the back of the net to up the lead to 7-1. Hopkinton stole the momentum for a brief time and got 3 quick goals to close the gap to 7-4 but Laconia's Bailey Moore took it back with his first goal on the day. With just over 3 minutes to go in the game, Laconia got called for an illegal stick and would finish the game a man down. The Sachems were looking for someone to come up big, and it was Muzzey who answered the call. He was able to poke check the ball out of the goalie's cross, scoop up the loose ball and sneak it into the open net to secure the Sachems' first victory of the season, 9-4. Coach Rod Roy had high praise for his team after the victory. "We moved the ball extremely well today. They passed, they caught, and they shot. We haven't done that all season. (Goalie Steven) Towers had a big, big day in net for us and that freed up our middies to run our offense." The 1-2 Sachems will host rivals Gilford on a Saturday scrimmage (8:30 at Laconia High School) before traveling to Hooksett for a 4:15 Mother's Day Game.
