LACONIA — Laconia need all seven frames to beat Belmont Friday afternoon, securing a 3-2 victory with a walk off single. Andrew Salta drove in the winning run on a seventh-inning hit that found its way between the first and second basemen of Belmont. Trace Privette, who lead off the inning with a walk and stolen base, came around from second to score the winning run. Salta went 1 for 2 at the plate with two walks, a run scored and two stolen bases. He also had five strikeouts in his first appearance of the season on the mound. "Andrew had great presence on the mound. It was his first time pitching in a few years," coach Jon Myers said. "He had good control and kept the Belmont hitters guessing."
Laconia opened the scoring in the fourth inning when Jordan Bladecki laced a line drive past the outstretched glove of Red Raiders third baseman Jason Taylor. Belmont responded by scoring two in the top of the fifth. The first run came off the bat of Joey Levesque who went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Caleb Drouin followed Levesque with a double to drive in the second run. The Sachems tied things up in the bottom of the inning, scoring off a single from Nate Batchelder (1 for 3 with a run scored, RBI and two stolen bases).
Levesque started for Belmont and pitched six-plus innings, allowing five hits, four walks and two earned runs while striking out three. "Levesque kept us guessing out there, mixing in his curve ball," continued Myers "He is a good pitcher on a good team."
Following the win on Friday, Laconia's record improved to 3 wins, 1 loss. The Sachems hosted Plymouth yesterday.
Belmont fell to 3-2 with the loss to Laconia. The Red Raiders traveled to Inter-Lakes yesterday.
