The Gilford softball team, playing behind sophomore pitcher Sarah Lachapelle, recorded its first shutout of the season by beating Inter-Lakes 15-0 in 4 1/2 innings. Lachapelle struck out 7 batters, gave up 3 hits and walked two. Ten different batters combined for 13 hits for the Gilford offense. Lachapelle led the Golden Eagle attack going 2/3 with a homerun over the fence, a double and 5 RBI. Maggie Fillion went 2/3 , Mikaela Mattice 2/2 (2 RBI and 2 runs scored) and Mollie Dignon (1 RBI), Jessica Freeman (1 run scored), Caitlin Houston (2 runs scored), Shannon Mercer (1 RBI), Kelsey Buckley (1 RBI and 2 runs scored), Maddie Harris (1 RBI and 1 run scored) and Brid Fillion (2 RBI) all had one hit apiece.
Gilford scored the one run they needed in the 2nd inning when Mikaela Mattice was hit by a pitch, stole 2nd and scored on a Maddie Harris single. Gilford scored 12 runs in the 3rd on 9 hits highlighted by Lachapelle batting twice and hitting a double and homerun to score 5 runs. The game was called after 4 1/2 innings by the mercy rule.
Gilford's next game is Thursday (tomorrow) at home against Somersworth.
