Belmont Middle School wins Newfound Invitational

The Belmont Middle School girls' basketball team took first place in the Newfound Invitational tournament. Belmont beat Kingswood in their first game behind Makenzie Donovan's 15 points and a game tying 3 pointer at the buzzer by Jordan Sargent but lost their next game to Newfound to drop into the losers bracket. JuJu Estremera led with 6 points in that game. The girls faced a tough Hopkinton team next and defeated them 26-19 to head to the finals against rival Newfound. Shayna Thibedau, Emily Drouin, and Makenzie Donovan combined for 17 points. The team trailed the first half and came back strong in the third quarter to put the game away. Lizzie Fleming, Chloe Sottak, and Jordan Sargent each scored 6 in the finals. The team played great defense keeping their opponents off balance each game.
