Ice racers run hot despite low temperatures

The Lakes Region Ice Racing Club was on Lee Pond in Moultonborough again this week for the 5th race of the 2014 season. A cold wind didn't affect the racers and the fans stayed warm watching from their cars. This week's event was sponsored by D and L Auto of Manchester.

The day started with hot laps and the first features for each of the 4 divisions. After intermission the second features ran and a winner was determined by the best combined finish.

The junior division was again dominated by Moultonborough's Trevor Greene who won both features for the overall win. Cody Burns took second, with Garrett Poitras in third.

The V8 Stock class was again won by Moultonborough's Matt Morrill driving his black Monte Carlo. Matt powered to both feature wins for the overall, with Alley Ripley of Center Ossipee in second. Alley challenged for the win in the second feature, but settled for second place.

Second and first place finishes in the 4-Cylinder division by Sandwich's Derek Jeanson gave him the overall win, his first ever. Tim Chase and his dad John Chase rounded out the podium. A broken steering mechanism ended points leader Matt Taylor's day early.

DJ Mills took advantage of the attrition in the Modified division to take the second feature and the overall win. Jack Cook and Fred Fecteau took second and third respectively.

The Lakes Region Ice Racing Club races every Sunday at 12:30 on Berry or Lee Pond in Moultonborough through mid-March. Check the club's website at www.LakesRegionIceRacingClub.com or the Facebook page for the latest race/ice status, information about coming events, and for race photos.
