Williams dominates modified division of ice racing on Berry Pond

A large crowd gathered on Berry Pond in Moultonboro, NH on a pleasant Sunday afternoon for the Lakes Region Ice Racing Club's third race of the 2014 season.

The day started with a memorial lap for long time fan and club supporter Ibra Royea. The racers circled the track carrying balloons and stopped on the front stretch to release them.

Each of the 4 divisions ran their first features and after intermission each division returned for a second feature with the best combined finish determining the overall winner.

The junior division was dominated by Center Harbor's Cody Burns who won both features for the overall win. Garrett Poitras of Rumney took second, with 13 year old Brett Burns in third.

The V8 Stock class was again ruled by Moultonboro's Matt Morrill driving his beautiful black #9 Monte Carlo. Matt won both features for the overall with Alley Ripley of Center Ossipee and Tim Chase of Northfield finishing second and third respectively.

A large field battled for the 4 Cylinder division win with consistent finishes by John Chase of Moultonboro taking the first place trophy. Tim Chase of Northfield and Matt Taylor also of Moultonboro took second and third places.

The high speed, winged Modified division put on a great show. Tuftonboro's Jake Williams in his #73 sprint car was unchallenged as he won both features. Mike Horsch and Fred Fecteau rounded out the modified victory circle.

The Lakes Region Ice Racing Club races every Sunday at 12:30 on Berry or Lee Pond in Moultonboro from January through mid-March. Check the club's website at www.LakesRegionIceRacingClub.com or the Facebook page for the latest race/ice status, information about coming events, and for race photos.
