Home pool proves friendly for Wavemakers

The Lakes Region Wavemakers recently hosted a home meet at the Laconia Athletic and Swim Club against the Concord Y and the Peterborough Wave Swim Team. Many swimmers participated in the meet with quite a few placing in the top ten and dropping time in their events. This was the first LRW home meet for swimmers; Owen Sanborn, Maria, Ryan W., Thor and Dagon, Rubby, Meredith Gerken, Ryan V., Jake Dumais, Murphy Harris, Joe Bonnel and sister Angie, Maggie Kirwan, Paije Fenderson, and Josh Kelleher.

In the 8 and under age group, Meredith Gerken (6), Juliet Sinkus (8), Hayley Cochrane (7), Riley Pinard (6), Ethan Vachon (8), Ayden Malloy (8), and Ruby Walker (6) all had big time drops in their events. Gerken had the most substantial time drops in the 25 and 50 freestyle, dropping 9.28 seconds and 13.25 seconds respectively.

The 9-10 swimmers swam fast, cutting off notable amounts of time in their events. Caitlin Dunleavy (9) dropped 28.52 seconds in her 100 IM, 7.45 seconds in her 100 freestyle, and 3.77 seconds in the 50 freestyle. Also dropping time was Sydney Mailloux (9) who touched the wall 31.53 seconds faster in the 100 freestyle then she had done previously. Gracie Shoemaker (10) and Jack Schumacher (10) both dropped over 9 seconds total in their events.

Kathryn Hawkes (11) and Anna Stankes (12) had the biggest time drops in the 11-12 age group with Hawkes dropping 46.61 seconds in her 200 freestyle and Stankes dropping 20.09 seconds in her 50 butterfly. Also dropping large amounts of time were Alyxandra Huckaby in the 200 freestyle, Alexa Mailloux (11) in the 100 free, and Thor Burr (12) in the 50 breaststroke.

For the 13 and over swimmers, Kaitlyn Callahan (14) dropped notable amounts of time in her 100 freestyle and 100 breastroke. She dropped 5.03 seconds in the free and 7.12 seconds in the breaststroke. Madison Reynolds (15) also achieved a personal best through dropping 5.79 seconds in the 100 free. Rebecca Cook (15) had a pair of personal best times in the 100 fly and the 200 IM, dropping a little over 2 seconds to achieve each of them. Allie Keith (17) dropped 2.60 seconds in her 100 breaststroke. The 13 and over swimmers did a very impressive job placing in the top spots of their events. Swimmers that placed in the top three of their events of this age group included: Katie Gingrich (16), Elisabeth Hutchins (17), Ryan Witham (13), Rebecca Cook (15), Sarah Sundius (17), Kayla Phelps (16), Matthew Sundius (15), Owen Sanborn (16), Michele Young (13), Beck Mclean (13), Joe Bonnell (14), Kaitlyn Egbert (15), Allie Keith (17), Clara Bates (14), Kaitlyn Callahan (14), and Maria Draper (16).

The Wavemakers will continue to prepare for the New England Regional Meet February 7-9 in White River Jct., Vt.
