The Laconia Middle School boys' A team kicked off their final week of the regular season with the long road trip to North Conway to tip-off against Kennett. It took the Sachems a while to find their legs; fortunately their big men were able to keep them out ahead of their speedy opponents. Drew Muzzey led his team with 18 points and 5 boards and Center Logan Bell added 17 points and 13 boards. Defensively point guard Christian Gaspa was nasty in the Sachem's press, getting 5 steals. Dan Engelson added 3 steals, as did Muzzey. The boys from Kennett battled right down to the final whistle and gave the Sachems their closest game of the season before falling 48-32.
The Sachems were at home for their next game against Alton. Looking to get back on track, the youngster from Laconia came out firing on all cylinders. It was the powerful combination of Muzzey and Bell, who again set the pace. Muzzey had a season/career high of 26 points and 7 boards while Bell dumped in 19 points and grabbed 12 boards. Jack Maher dropped 7 points and 9 boards while Riley Roy popped a couple of nice 3 pointers to chip in 6 points. Ryan Paiva was big on the boards, pulling down 10 rebounds to help control the game's tempo. Christian Gaspa dished off 8 assists as he quickly approaches 100 for the season. Defensively Bell led a great defensive effort with 4 steals. Christian Platon, Parker Minor, Noah Cruz, and Ryan McCrea had 3 steals each and every member of the Sachems recorded at least one steal. When the clock sounded to end the game, Laconia had a dominant 69-17 victory and upped their season record to 16-0. Their final regular season game will be tomorrow evening against Merrimack Valley.
