Round-up: Laconia, Gilford girls building momentum

The Laconia High School girls' team has strung together three consecutive wins to improve to 8-5. Laconia will carry the momentum to Berlin (3-9) tonight to face a team that has dropped eight of their last nine games. The Sachems will only face one team with a winning record in the final five games. Laconia will head to 6-8 Winnisquam on Tuesday.

The Gilford Golden Eagles (9-4) will take their own three game win streak to White Mountains (7-8) tonight. Last week Gilford beat Farmington 50-27 and Inter-Lakes 68-24. Tuesday the Golden Eagles will host Farmington for the second time in as many weeks.

Friday night will also feature 6-8 Winnisquam at Belmont (6-7). Tuesday has Franklin at Belmont and Newfound at Inter-Lakes.

Boys' basketball

Friday night features a key NHIAA Division III matchup in Laconia as the Sachems (8-3) host 8-2 Berlin. Both teams are vying for a first round bye in postseason play. Laconia's only division III loss came back in December to the Tigers of Farmington. The two other losses were against DII powerhouse Plymouth Regional.

The Golden Eagles of Gilford boast an 8-3 record of their own coming into tonight's action against White Mountains. The boys will be tested on Tuesday night when they travel to Farmington, who they beat 57-43 a week ago.

Winnisquam (10-3) will have the weekend to prepare for Tuesday night's tilt against the Sachems. Tuesday will also see Belmont at Franklin and Inter-Lakes at Newfound.

The Wolfpack earned their third win on the season 4-1, highlighted by a hat trick from Dakota Tyno against ConVal last Saturday. Wednesday's snowstorm threw a wrench into the local hockey schedule, pushing the Laconia-Winnisquam at Portsmouth match to February 25. The Wolfpack will take the time to rest up for a three game stretch that starts on Saturday in Berlin. Laconia-Winnisquam then heads to Manchester West on Monday and finally back at the Laconia Ice arena on Wednesday as the visitor against Belmont-Gilford.

The Bulldogs stay home this week facing off against the Renegades of Moultonborough-Inter-Lakes Saturday and the Wolfpack on Wednesday.
