'Chafing the Dream' wins Amy Annis Volleyball Tournament

The 3rd Annual Amy Annis Volleyball Tournament was held on Saturday in the Gilford High School and Middle School gyms. 16 teams consisting of high school, college and adult players competed in 4 different pools. After the completion of pool play the top 2 teams with the best record went into the Gold Division Single Elimination Tournament and the bottom 2 teams from each pool went into the Silver Division Single Elimination Tournament.

In the Gold Division the semi-final matchups featured Just The Tip vs the Coaches and Murphy's Law vs Chafing the Dream. Both The Coaches and Chafing the Dream won their matches setting up the Gold Division Championship match. Chafing the Dream beat The Coaches in 3 games with the 3rd game score of 15-10. Chafing the Dream and The Coaches were both self-sponsored.

In the Silver Division Semi Final matchup Dig Deep beat Play For A Cure and Gordo and The Super Squirrels beat The Dream Team. The Silver Division championship match featured Dig Deep vs Gordo and The Super Squirrels with Dig Deep winning the match 2-0. Dig Deep was sponsored by Bank of New Hampshire/ Meadowbrook and Gordo and The Super Squirrels were sponsored by Pass Set Crush Volleyball Camp.

The event raised $2,380 for the Amy Annis Scholarship Fund and breast cancer research.

Organizers are thankful for the companies and people who sponsored a team's entry fee. Sponsors were Central Lakes Region Movers, Bank of NH/Meadowbrook, Winnipesaukee Driving School, Family Farm Insurance, Pass Set Crush Volleyball Camp, Peter Sawyer, Smith's Tubular System, Aroma Joe's and Mas-Con Corp.

The champions of the Silver and Gold Division were given prizes donated by The Shalimar, Lakes Region Athletic & Swim Club and Piche's Ski and Sport. A thank you goes to the Gilford School District for their support in allowing this event to be held and to Jim Babcock and Rick Forge, NHIAA volleyball officials, who volunteered to officiate the semi-final and championship matches.
