Round-up: LHS basketball teams back in action after a week of rest

The Laconia Sachems (5-4) girls' basketball team struggled early on in the first quarter to spot Franklin an 8-0 lead last Friday night. Laconia could not mount the comeback, chasing Franklin to the final buzzer, losing 42-40. The well-rested Sachems are back in action tonight hosting Newfound Regional. On Tuesday the girls' travel to Prospect Mountain.

Gilford (6-4) split the week, beating Berlin 50-33 at home last Friday night and losing in Franklin 36-28. The Golden Eagles head to Belmont (4-5) tonight. Belmont dropped both games last week. Last Friday's loss was on the road at Mascoma Valley 55-45. The other defeat came at home to Newfound Regional, 66-30. The Red Raiders will stay in the Lakes Region on Tuesday, traveling to Meredith to take on the 1-7 Lakers from Inter-Lakes High School.

The Lakers were downed by Prospect Mountain last Friday 48-35. I-L will be busy this week, hosting White Mountains tonight, Belmont on Tuesday and traveling to Newfound on Thursday.

Boys' basketball

The Laconia boys' team also enjoyed the week off after beating Franklin on the road 62-45. The 5-2 Sachems host Newfound tonight and head to Prospect Mountain on Tuesday.

Belmont (1-7) will attempt to halt a three game skid in Gilford tonight. The Golden Eagles stopped their own losing streak Tuesday, beating Franklin 46-30. Gilford will host Farmington on Tuesday night.

Inter-Lakes lost two in a row, last Friday to Prospect Mountian 70-56 and Tuesday to Moultonbourough 55-34. The Lakers will be in action tonight versus White Mountains, Tuesday against Belmont and at Newfound on Thursday.


Belmont-Gilford remain on top of the NHIAA Division III standings with a perfect 8-0 record after beating Manchester West on Wednesday night 11-1. The Bulldogs continue to chase perfection tomorrow night in Portsmouth and Wednesday at Kennett.

Laconia-Winnisquam will look for the team's second win of the season tomorrow at Kearsarge and stay on the road Wednesday in Pelham-Windham.

Moultonborough-Inter-Lakes will also be looking for win number two against Manchester West on Monday.
