Inter-Lakes volleyball can't top Nute in semi-finals

PLYMOUTH —The season came to an end Wednesday night for the Inter-Lakes High School volleyball team, losing 3-0 to Nute in the semi-final match of the NHIAA's Division III tournament played at Plymouth State University.

The Lakers hung around early in the first set but were no match for undefeated Nute's defense. Nute controlled all three sets winning 25-17, 25-19, and 25-18. The Rams will return to the finals for the second straight year.

"We played great defense, but couldn't our offense rolling." Said Coach Randy Mattson. 'None of our girls had more than five service points in a row. Usually we can roll into double digits serving. We started out with the energy I had hoped for, but could not generate the offense."

Jordan Donohue lead the Lakers attack with 15 kills. Jessica Schofield had nine kills and three blocks on the evening. " Jessica had the best game of her career tonight." Mattson continued."We had a great season. I am enormously proud of the girls this year. They showed tremendous heart winning on the road at Campbell to get here tonight."

Nute lost in the finals last year to Winnisquam 3-0. They will look to complete the perfect season Friday night at Plymouth State University.
