When Consititution was written they weren't talking assault rifles

To the editor,
After reading three papers this morning, the big subject was guns. Does anyone remember the song "Happy Trails" by Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. You can watch their program on ME on Sunday. I think we all need to strap on a gun and holster just like they did in the old west and maybe bring back horses as transportation. The legislatures can't make up their minds what they want to do. Pass a bill one year. Get rid of it the next year or two and then bring it back the next year. At least leave it in there for a few years.
I hate guns and I believe that the person who invented guns should be shot! When the Constitution said an individual has a right to bear arms, they were talking about pistols and rifles not the assault weapons that are available today. Granted, guns will never go away and the saddest part of this is that guns kill innocent men, women and children. So, get your horse saddled up and sing along with Roy and Dale and ride out into the sunset. Be sure you leave your gun at home as you might shoot your eye out!
