Arnold E. 'Arn' Boardman, 85

LACONIA — Arnold "Arn" E. Boardman, 85, of 4 Race Point Road, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital on Friday, January 3, 2014.
Arnold was born January 13, 1928 in Everett, Mass., the son of the late Walter C. and Edna (Lawson) Boardman and was raised by his aunt, Clara L. Burke. He was a 1946 graduate of Everett High School and served in the U.S. Army Nov. to June 1950 in Japan and Germany and received an Army of Occupation Medal; from June 1950 to his discharge from the Army September 7 1951, he served in the Korean Conflict receiving three Bronze Service Stars. Arn worked several years for a Loan Co. located in Boston. He then worked for the Middlesex Bank until he retired in 1991. In 1993, Arn and his wife, Claire, retired to South Down Shores in New Hampshire to live. Arn and Claire are communicants of St. Andre Bessette Parish – Sacred Heart Church. Arn was an amateur photographer and enjoyed photography for several years. He also continued to follow his 'hometown" of Everett's High School Football team. He still attended their football games and writing in the local newspaper in Everett of the results of each game. He also produced a book on Everett's Football Teams since they started playing in 1892 through 2007. Arn was a member of the Everett "E" Club and is listed as their Historian on Everett Football.
Survivors include his best friend and wife of 59 years, Claire Susan (Moroney) Boardman, of Laconia, one sister, Gladys Cappizzi, of the North End in Boston, Mass., one brother, Kenneth Boardman, of Revere, Mass., 3 nephews; Salvatore "Sammy", Andrew and Phillip, 5 nieces; Gladys, Shirley, Louise, Gail and Sonja all of Mass. He has one surviving cousin, William Berry, of North Reading, Mass.
Memorial calling hours will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at the Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, N.H., using the Carriage House entrance. A memorial service will immediately follow at 4 p.m. also at the funeral home. Burial will be held at a later date in Mass.

Dorothy V. Taft, 92

LACONIA — Dorothy V. Taft (Newton) born on November 12,1921 passed away peacefully on January 3,2014.

Happily Married to Robert D. Taft on August 25, 1943. She worked at Leland Gifford, where they met, in the cost department. Then during WW2, while Robert went to serve she put time into the Red Cross as a nurses' aid. They together built a home in Shrewsbury MA  and raised three children. She then worked at Hebert Candies until retirement.

She leaves behind her husband of 70 years, Robert D. Taft, a brother, Robert A. Newton and his wife Diane J. Newton, a sister Barbara L. Carlson,. a son David W. Taft and his wife Lela Taft, three grandchildren Christian Taft, Robert Maider, and Stephanie Jean and her husband Peter Jean, with whom she spent her last days. Four great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Harrison, Pvt. Patrick Harrison, Philip Gonyea, and Joshua Jean.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her two daughters Carolyn E. Taft and Janice B. Taft and her brother, Warren A. Newton, who passed last year.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be private.

Joan E. Davies, 79

LACONIA — Joan E. Davies, 79, of Laconia, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at Golden View Health Care Center, in Meredith after a lengthy illness.

Born in Laconia, on October 3, 1934, she was the daughter of Reginald and M. Bernadette (Tremblay) Morancy. Joan attended Sacred Heart School, and graduated from Laconia High School. After graduation Joan enlisted with the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Norfolk, VA for four years during the Korean Conflict. She then went on to further her education at Laconia Voc. Tech.

Joan was a skilled bookkeeper who worked throughout her long career at several local businesses: the Charles Rogers, Co., Gilmore Office Products, and was a long-time employee for Belknap Tire Co. Never one to rest too long, Joan also worked several various jobs throughout her retirement.

She enjoyed reading, knitting and crocheting, and loved animals. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family.

Joan is predeceased by her parents, brother, Gene Morancy, and great-grandson Kaden.

She is survived by her two daughters, Cindy Boucher, of Moultonborough, Debra Quimby and husband Glen, of Derry; two sons, Rory Davies and his significant other Marlene Charleston, of N. Conway, Steven Davies, of Laconia; four grandchildren, Jason, Laura, Derek, Curtis; one great-grandson, Cody; step-sister, Arlene Graham and husband Phil, of Gilford; niece, Julie Bucciarelly; great-nephew, Eli Cilley; and long-time family friend, Carole Myrick.

A graveside service will be held at St. Lambert Cemetery, Province St., Laconia, on Friday, May 16, 2014. Deacon Russell Morey, of St. André Bessette Parish will officiate. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.

Yolanda A. Dinan, 85

LACONIA — Yolanda Ann Dinan, 85, of 161 Massachusetts Avenue, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital on Thursday, December 26, 2013.
Mrs. Dinan was born May 24, 1928 in Aldenville, Mass., the daughter of the late Roland and Lucille (Saint Pierre) Leclerc. She resided in Auburn, N.H. for years before moving to Laconia in 1968.
Mrs. Dinan had been employed with the Food Service Department of the Laconia School District at the Memorial Middle School for many years. She was an avid square dancer, loved to crochet and spend time at the beach and with her great grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons, Gary Dinan and his wife, Cynthia, of Laconia, Timothy Dinan and his wife, Kelly, of Belmont and James Dinan of Gilford; three grandchildren, Jaymie Paquette, Brittni Dinan and Heather Thurber; three great grandchildren; Caleb, Madison and Abbigail Paquette; two brothers, George Leclerc of Massachusetts and Rene Leclerc of Massachusetts; two sisters, Blandine Legrande of California and Theresa Grimshaw of Massachusetts and several nephews and nieces. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dinan was predeceased by her husband of 32 years, Kenneth Dinan, in 1984, a son, Donald Dinan, in 1970, a sister, Margurite Skura and a brother, Normand Leclerc.
There will be no calling hours.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 19, 2014 at Leavitt Park House, 334 Elm Street, Laconia, from 1 to 4 p.m.
Spring burial will be at the family lot in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Laconia, N.H.
