2 men swim to safety after SUV breaks through ice

MOULTONBOROUGH — Two ice fishermen men who were riding in a Chevrolet Suburban sport utility vehicle when it broke through the ice Friday near Whaleback Island on Lake Winnipesaukee were able to escape from the vehicle as it sank and clamber onto the ice where they were picked up by snowmobilers and taken to shore.Fire Chief David Bengston said that the two local men had driven onto the ice in the Balmoral Beach area and... Full Moon snowshoe hike set for Tuesday, Feb. 23

GILFORD — The Gilford Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a fun full-moon snowshoe hike on Tuesday, Feb. 23 for all ages. Participants will check in at the Gilford Elementary School cafeteria at 6:45 p.m. before heading out on the Nature Trails at 7 p.m. Following the hike participants will  return to the cafeteria to enjoy some hot cocoa. He leaves behind his older brother, Joshua Wade of Keene; his mother, Dawn Stone, of Tamworth; and his father, Chuck Wade and his wife Patricia, both of Meredith.
