GILFORD — Gerard (Jerry) McCabe died Tuesday, July 15, 2014 after a long battle with cancer.
Jerry was born in Cambridge, Mass. He was the son of the late John and Mabel (Casassa) McCabe. He grew up in Arlington, Mass. and graduated from Arlington High School. He attended Wentworth Institute of Technology, the Massachusetts Fire Academy and the National Fire Academy in Maryland. He was an EMT/ firefighter in Cambridge, Mass. for 34 years. He was an arson investigator, aide to 2 chiefs and fire apparatus mechanic. He also was a volunteer firefighter in Alton, N.H. He truly loved his job. He resided in Burlington, Mass. for 36 years and retired to N.H. in 2013.,
He is survived by his wife of 49 years Claire (Newcomb) McCabe, 2 children: son Kevin McCabe Of Auburn, Mass., daughter Kellie Allard of Tyngsboro, Mass., 4 grandchildren, Madelyn and Emma Allard, Kaia and Keegan McCabe, as well as his brother, John. He was predeceased by his daughter, Kathleen.
On Friday, July 18th from 9 to 10 a.m. there will a calling hour at church followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Katharine Drexel Church, 40 Hidden Springs Rd. off rte. 28N in Alton near the Wolfeboro line. Burial will be at Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Burlington, Mass. next to his daughter, Kathleen.
