Peter G. Burleigh, 73

ALTON — Peter Gregg Burleigh, loving father, educator, and adventurer, died unexpectedly of a heart attack on October 30th, 2013 at the age of 73. He was the third son of the late Joseph and Alice (Taggart) Burleigh. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Harry and is survived by his son, Evan Burleigh of Braintree, Mass. and his brother, Hugh Burleigh of Tulsa, Okla. Peter was born on March 19, 1940 and grew up in Franklin, N.H. going to Franklin High School and graduated from UNH in 1962. He went on to continue his education in 1990 at Columbia University where he received a Masters in Educational Administration. He became an educator right after graduating from UNH and worked at numerous schools until he ended up teaching at Thayer Academy in Braintree, Mass. for 21 years and then spent the next 12 teaching at Catholic Memorial High School in West Roxbury. He retired in 2006 to his home in Alton, N.H. on Lake Winnipesaukee where he lived happily three seasons of the year while spending summers at his campsite in Connecticut. In the last year he learned to ski again on a new hip, upgraded his campsite, and improved his home in Alton. Peter had many passions, including sailing, skiing, photography, and especially learning and teaching. He touched many lives, and will be sorely missed, but forever remembered. Burial Service Friday, June 20, 2014 at 2 p.m. in Webster Place Cemetery in Franklin, N.H. In case of rain, Service will be held at H.L Young & Company Memorial Home, 175 South Main St., Franklin, N.H. instead. For detailed information visit www.burleigh.info
