MOULTONBOROUGH — Helen Faye (Johnson) Abbott, 82, of Moultonborough, NH and formerly of Sutton, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on May 15th. She was surrounded by her cherished family and passed into eternal peace in her home, which she dearly loved.
Mrs. Abbott graduated from Grafton High School in 1949 and attended the University of Connecticut for nursing. After marrying her high school sweetheart on September 3, 1951, they settled in Ithaca, NY while her husband completed his veterinary medicine degree. They came back to New England and eventually settled in Sutton to raise their family of four, then moved to Moultonborough, NH in 1980.
Helen's generous and giving heart reached into every community she lived in. She was a dedicated member of the Moultonborough Visiting Nurse Services Board of Directors, and served as their secretary since 1982. Whether she was volunteering in the pediatrics ward, being a Camp Fire Girl leader, driving for the "Care Giver" program or helping a neighbor, her understated passion and presence was always felt. She was an extraordinary cook and loved to entertain. However, her greatest pride, joy and pleasure were sharing moments with her family. She was a lady blessed with inner beauty, grace and dignity. She possessed a warm affinity for everyone she met. Her loving ways will be missed by all who knew her. "To live in the hearts of those who love us is never to die."
For nearly 63 years, Helen was the beloved wife of Dr. Richard Abbott. She was an amazing Mom to Deborah Holmgren and her husband Henry of Worcester, MA, Scott Abbott of Morrisville, VT, and Lynne Francolini of Millbury, MA., and an adored grandmother to Jonathan Maynard, Christopher Maynard and Renee Francolini. She is also survived by brothers Paul Johnson and his partner, David Johnson and his wife, Donna Theriault and her husband, three nieces that she thought of as daughters, Coleen Sorensen, Maureen Chumsae, and Kathy Harris, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Evelyn (Faulkner) Johnson Day, Allan Johnson; her sister, Nancy Renaud; and her son, Richard J. Abbott, Jr. She also leaves her much loved furry friends, Josh, Millie and Roxie.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 22 at 3:00PM at the Moultonborough United Methodist Church; Rte. 25, Moultonborough. Burial will be private in Holland Hill Cemetery, Moultonborough.
