MEREDITH — Alice Jane (Behymer) Hinman died May 11, 2014, at Forest View Manor in Meredith after a long period of declining health. She was 97.

Alice Jane, the youngest child of Hallie (Hughes) and Forney L. Behymer, was raised in Liberty, Ind., and met her husband, Ford B. Hinman, at the University of Michigan.

They were married in 1936, and lived at Holderness School where Mr. Hinman taught and coached for 42 years. Alice Jane served the school as librarian, typing teacher, and secretary to the headmaster where she was responsible for much of the daily operation of the school.

The Hinmans retired from Holderness School in 1974 and settled in Northfield, Vt., on West Hill. There she enjoyed gardening, working in the dean's office at Norwich University, and volunteering in the Northfield Library.

Alice Jane was predeceased by her husband in 1993; her youngest son, David, in 2010; and her grandson, Chris Moulton, in 2002.

She will be missed by her son, Donald B. Hinman and his wife, Mary-Lou in Danbury; her daughter, Jane Ramsay, in Meredith; an extended family member, Bobsy Dudley Thompson, in Edgecomb, Maine; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The family is indebted to Forest View Manor for the kind and professional care they gave to Alice Jane during her stay there.

At her request, there will be no funeral.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts might be sent to The Forest View Sunshine Fund, or to Holderness School.
