Donald M. Evans, 89

TILTON — Donald Myrton Evans passed away in the early morning of April 18 at the New Hampshire Veterans Home, with his daughter Jane at his side. He was 89 years old.

Don began his life in Belmont, Mass., in December 1924. He served in the Navy in the Philippines, married his wife Dorothy in 1949, and graduated from Northeastern University in 1950. Afterward, he and Dot relocated to Fairhaven, Mass., where they raised two children. He began and ended his working career as an industrial engineer at Acushnet Co.

His boyhood memories were of summers on Welch Island on Lake Winnipesaukee and hiking many of the 4,000-footers in the White Mountains. Later in life, he moved to the Lakes Region, where he sold real estate for a number of years. Many of his most enjoyable and special moments of that time in life were spent with his two grandchildren, Chapin and Harrison.

Don was a man who, right until the end, never had an unkind word for anyone.

He was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church and spent many an hour volunteering for Community Health and Hospice.

His wife Dorothy passed away in 2012, and Don spent his final years at the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton.

He is survived by his two children, Jane Evans, of Saco, Maine, and David Evans, of Meredith. He is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Joyce Evans; and two grandchildren, Chapin and Harrison Evans.

To honor Don's memory, the family is requesting that donations be made to New Hampshire Veterans Home, 139 Winter St. Tilton, NH 03276

Services in honor of Don's life will be at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Parade Road in Laconia at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 10. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on May 29 at the Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
