Beatrice P. Finethy, 89

ALTON BAY — Beatrice (Betty) Patten Finethy, 89, of Alton Bay, died peacefully at Forestview Manor on Sunday, March 30, 2014. Betty was born in Woburn, Mass. on January 25, 1925, the daughter of Clifford and Marie (Cleveland) Patten. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Harold (Bud) Finethy, Jr.

Betty attended schools in Stoneham, Mass. and was a graduate of Marblehead High School. She attended the University of Maine, and later obtained her degree from Simmons College, Boston, Mass. She met and married Bud while working at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital.

Betty and Bud moved to Alton Bay, in 1957, where Betty was the owner of B&B Sportswear Shop on Main Street until she and Bud bought and ran Alton Home Center for 25 years. Betty was a member of DAR (Daughters of American Revolution), Alton Community Church and the Alton Garden Club. She enjoyed reading, swimming, walking outdoors and spending time with her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and friend and will be missed by so many.

She is survived by her son Harold (Bill) W. Finethy, III, daughter-in-law, Lisa (Stryker) Finethy, three grandsons, Christopher, Ryan and Tyler, and one niece, Ann McFadden, of North Carolina.
In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by her father, Clifford Patton, mother, Marie (Cleveland) Patton, sister, Mary (Patton) Moynhan and brother-in-law Col. William J Moynhan.

With respect to Betty's wishes, there will be a graveside service this summer (details to be provided at a later date). Donations in Betty's memory may be made to the Immune Deficiency Foundation, 40 West Chesapeake Avenue, Suite 308, Towson, MD 21204.
