ALEXANDRIA — R. Fred Renoe 88, died Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the NH Veterans Home in Tilton. He was born in Long Beach, California the son of Richard R. and Kate (Hudkins) Renoe.
Following graduation from high school, Fred joined the US Navy where he served 11 years of active duty service before transferring to the Naval Reserves where he served another 18 years. Fred spent time as a deep sea diver doing salvage work and also learned the trade of welding and doing work as a ship fitter. While serving on the crew of the USS Haven, a Naval hospital ship, stationed in Korea, he met Gladys (Marsden) who was serving as a nurse. They married in 1951.
After being discharged from the Navy, Fred and Gladys settled in Taunton, Mass. Fred went to work for the Foxboro Company where he did welding and steel work. In his younger years, Fred was a race car enthusiast, building and racing them in the Bonneville Salt Flats. As part of his involvement in the community, Fred joined the local Masonic Lodge and together, he and Gladys became active members of the former Rehoboth Chapter #208 which later became a part of Hope Chapter #41, Order of the Eastern Star in Massachusetts. He was a Past Patron of the Chapter. Fred was also a regular blood donor, having given over 14 gallons while he was able to donate. In 1985, they retired to Alexandria, NH.
Family members include his wife of 62 years, Gladys (Marsden) Renoe; two daughters, Dianne Roberts of Salisbury, N.H. and Susan Gove of W. Lebanon, N.H.; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A service with military honors will be held Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the NH Veterans Home, 139 Winter St., Tilton, NH 03276. Arrangements are under the direction of the Emmons Funeral Home of Bristol, N.H.
