Dustin J. Pickel, 3

ROCKDALE, Tex. — Dustin John Pickel was born April 27, 2010 in Austin, Tex. to his loving parents, Jeff and Kelly (Shoemake) Pickel. He was their middle son, who with his families' help, fought a long and courageous battle with cancer, which ended in his parents' arms on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at their home in Rockdale, Tex.

Dustin, with his family, has lived in Rockdale since June 2013 and previously lived in Round Rock, Tex. On June 25, 2010, Dustin was baptized at First United Methodist Church, Round Rock, Tex. During his three years, he made a huge number of friends, attended St. John's United Methodist Church, received his certificate as a Child of the Republic of Texas, and became a member of Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department.

Dustin loved his family. Especially his mommy. He loved to wrestle with his brothers, watch "Mickey Mouse", "Cars", and "Polar Express". He loved to ride his "bicycle". He loved his monster trucks, play dough, and riding in the golf cart with his brothers to the tank to see the ducks and white birds. Dustin loved to be outside, and he could swing for hours. One of his favorite things to do was to ride down his neighbor's steep driveway in his little red car.

Dustin is survived by; his mom and dad, Jeff and Kelly Pickel of Rockdale. Also surviving are his big brother, Braden Scott Pickel and his little brother, Collin Lane Pickel both of Rockdale. Maternal grandparents are John and Sharon Shoemake of Rockdale. Paternal grandparents are Timothy and Sherry Pickel of Meredith, N.H. Aunts and uncles, Kirby Shoemake and wife Kristy and their daughters, Morgan and Molly of Georgetown, Tex., Beth Doda and husband Pierre and their children, Joey, Hayley, and Emily of Meredith, N.H., several great aunts and uncles including Wenda Dyer of Rockdale and Michael and Susan Laramie of Laconia, N.H., many cousins along with many close family friends, especially Janet and Walter Pond, and let's not forget his companion at home, his cat "Georgie".

Services for Dustin are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014, at St. John's United Methodist Church in Rockdale. Burial will follow at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Rockdale. Pastor Adam Straznicky, of St. John's United Methodist Church and John Shoemake, "Pops", will officiate. Visitation is 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2014 at Phillips & Luckey Chapel.

Pallbearers will be Kirby Shoemake, Wes Goggans, Keith Laramie, Michael Laramie, Walter Pond, and Reagan Sivadon.

Honorary pallbearers are members of the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department.
