SAINT AUGUSTINE BEACH, Fla. — Rita Marie DeProspo, 89, of St Augustine Beach Florida, formerly of Laconia, passed away on January 31 after a period of declining health.
Rita was born to the late James and Anna McGillick on December 12, 1924 in Patterson NJ. Rita was an only child. Her father was from a large Irish-Catholic family of 16. Rita grew up with aunts and uncles who were like siblings to her. She had an ear for music and a lovely singing voice. Throughout her years in school she was in the chorus and various productions. After graduating from Central HS, Rita worked for the New Jersey Bell Telephone Company as a supervisor. In 1954 she married Carl DeProspo and resided in Clifton, NJ. Eventually they settled at the Jersey Shore where they raised three children.
Rita is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Carl. Rita is also survived by her children: Carl DeProspo and his wife Mary Ann of Gilford, NH; Nancy Swain and her husband James of Saint Augustine Beach, Fla.; Mark DeProspo and his wife Lynne of Flagler Beach, Fla. Rita also leaves behind two grandchildren: Jenna DeProspo of Gilford and James De Prospo of Santa Cruz, Calif.
A celebration of life was held on February 9 in St. Augustine Beach, Fla, which was attended by dozens of Rita's friends and family. Local arrangements are pending.
