LACONIA — Barbara P. Annis, 85, of 32 Carver Street, died peacefully in the company of her family at the Lakes Region General Hospital on Friday afternoon, February 7, 2014.
Barbara was born February 14, 1928 in Laconia; she was the daughter of Harold and Margaret (Bacon) Wilkinson. She was a lifelong resident of Laconia and Gilford.
Prior to her retirement she worked as a homemaker and was employed at several local, family-owned businesses including the Madrigal Shop, Melnicks's, and Piches's Ski and Sport Shop.
Known to family and many in the community as Nanny, Barbara's kind and loving presence was felt by new acquaintances, old friends and family alike. Barbara will be remembered for her positivity in the face of hardship, her enthusiasm for life, and for her faith in the goodness of others. She loved well and was well loved. She will be missed by all.
Survivors include three sons, James "Jimbo" C. Annis, of Gilford, Randy H. Annis, of Laconia and Mark V. Annis, of Gilford; six grandchildren; Jarrod, Jesse, Ashley, Geremy, and Kyle Annis, and Samantha Hawkins; four great grandchildren; a brother, William Wilkinson, of Plymouth and several nephews and nieces. In addition to her parents, Barbara was predeceased by her brother, Robert H. Wilkinson; two sisters, Norma Wilkinson and Virginia Wilkinson Bates and a granddaughter, Amy.
Memorial calling hours will be held on Monday, February 17, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, N.H.
A private Graveside Service will be held at the family lot in Pine Grove Cemetery, in Gilford, N.H. in the spring.
In lieu of flowers a Scholarship Fund benefiting Gilford High School Students has been set up in memory of Barbara's granddaughter Amy under the name of "Friends of Amy" at Bank of NH, 62 Pleasant St. Laconia, NH 03246.
