Mario Panicucci, 79

MARTINSVILLE, N.J. — Mario Panicucci, age 79, died on Monday, January 20, 2014, at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville in the presence of his wife. Born in Santa Maria a Monte, Italy, he resided in Nutley, Paterson, Newark and Manville before moving to Martinsville in 1976.
Mario served in the United States Army, where he was part of the Army Chorus. He was with the 110th Unit Aviation Company Helicopter Battalion. Prior to retiring in 1990, he worked for the United States Postal Service in Newark for twenty-five years. He was also a member of Blessed Sacrament RC Church in Martinsville.
Mario was an opera singer who studied in New York City. He sang with the NJ Opera Company at the NJ Symphony Hall and sang at many holiday concerts and was well known for singing Ava Maria. He has vacationed for over twenty years at his summer home in New Hampton, New Hampshire. He enjoyed hunting and belonged to the Manville Hunting Club.
Predeceased by his brother Frank Panicucci and his sister Anna Fattorini.
Surviving are his loving wife Virginia (Gregori) Panicucci; daughter Marianne Panicucci and her husband Enrique Troncoso; his grandchildren Alessandro and Marcello and many nieces and nephews with whom he enjoyed spending time.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 9 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ 07069, followed by a Mass of Resurrection at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, Martinsville. Entombment will follow at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge.
