Dolores 'Dee' Cunningham, 92

TILTON — Mrs. Dolores "Dee" (Landers) Cunningham, 92, a longtime Tilton resident and recent resident of Belmont, died at NH Veterans Home on Jan. 1, 2014.

Dee was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on July 7, 1921,the daughter of Norman and Gladys (Cunningham) Landers. She was raised in Iowa and upon graduation from the local high school, joined the U.S. Army in 1943 and served until 1945. Following her discharge, she moved to Tilton and married her husband, William J. Cunningham, whom she met while both were serving at Fort Monroe, VA. She was immensely proud of the opportunity to serve her country and the good fortune it gave her to meet Bill, the love of her life.

While her greatest joys were that of being a wife, mother, homemaker, and serving others, she also worked part-time at the Tilton Belt Shop, The Peabody Home, and Franklin Regional Hospital. She was a communicant of St. Mary of The Assumption Church in Tilton and enjoyed opportunities to serve the parish as a member of the St. Anne Society.

Family members include her daughters: Mary Carignan and her husband Dennis of Crossvillle, Tennessee, and Carol Varney and her husband David of Belmont, NH, with whom she lived prior to moving to NHVH. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren: Lt. Col. Ryan Carignan USAF of South Dakota, Marcy Page of California, and Shane Page of New Hampshire, three great grandchildren, one great-great grandson, and nieces and nephews.

Dolores was predeceased by her husband, William, who died in 1998 and a daughter Sheila Page Morrell who died in 2008.

Visiting hours will be held Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 at Paquette-Neun Funeral Home, 104 Park St., Northfield from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of The Assumption Church, Chestnut St., Tilton, on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014 at 10 am. Spring burial will be in St. John Cemetery.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the NH Veterans Home for the comfort and loving care provided to Dee over the last 4 years, and asks that donations in memory of Mrs. Cunningham be made to the NH Veterans Home Ladies Activity Fund, 139 Winter Street, Tilton, NH 03276.
