Jessica Hatch elected selectman by Danbury voters

DANBURY — Voters chose Jessica Hatch, 178, in the three-way Danbury selectman's race on Tuesday, with Mickey McIver polling 129 and Dale Cook with 96. David Suckling, 264, won as police chief, over Bill Kennedy with 136. For library trustee, Judy Peterson, 259, defeated John Crawford, 79; Twila Cook, 241, won over Stephanie Carucci for treasurer; and Alan Huntoon won re-election as road agent, 249-153 over Jeremy Martin.
During the business meeting, voters defeated an article for a new police cruiser but approved, 200-190, the purchase of a $149,000 highway truck, and they approved the budget committee's operating budget of $1,032,480. The town also approved a petitioned Community Bill of Rights ordinance; an article asking the selectmen not to negotiate a payment in lieu of taxes agreement with any renewable energy facility; an article requiring wind energy facilities to post a bond to cover the cost of removing all facilities when they cease operation; and one requiring industrial wind developers to provide a property value guarantee to all property owners within a three-mile radius of any turbine.
