Humane Society holds Summer Adopt a thon at VCA Lakes Region Veterinary Hospital

LACONIA — The New Hampshire Humane Society (NHHS) in partnership with VCA Lakes Region Veterinary Hospital, will spotlight a variety of cats, kittens, puppies and adult dogs available for adoption at their annual Summer Adopt a Thon, Saturday June 28 10 a.m to 3 p.m.

Following what is usually an initiative for cats, the local shelter has included all pets for this event with the goal of adopting as many pets as possible during this one day adoption extravaganza.

Shelter spokesperson, Managing Director Marylee Gorham stated, "while we have always fully embraced this June pet adoption promotion, we waited until after the excitement of Bike Week this year to launch this initiative. Confidence is high that many creatures will find loving forever homes on June 28".

Adding to the festivities, Ben & Jerry's will be doling out four euphoric selections of their delectable dessert, including a newly launched flavor, the rather aptly named Turtle Cheesecake. Proceeds from Ice Cream sales will benefit the homeless animals awaiting placement at the shelter on Meredith Center Road, Laconia.

Shelter partner, VCA Lakes Region Veterinary Hospital, located at 1266 Union Avenue, Laconia, across from the Macdonald's restaurant, happily gave the lower level of their facility to stage the adopt a thon. This full service veterinary hospital has thrown open their doors on the same day to host an Open House, featuring a meet and greet of veterinary staff, tours, face painting, raffles and a bake sale.
New this year, Petco will be present to talk about the services they provide at the newly opened store in the Home Goods plaza in Gilford.
Those wishing to adopt a new pet will be able to finalize adoptions the same day, provided all necessary paperwork is complete. Adopters will receive goodie bags to accompany their new pet home.

To learn more about the Adopt A thon check www.nhhumane or call 524-3252 for details. Information about the Open House can be accessed by calling VCA Lakes Region Veterinary Hospital 524-8387 or check www.vcalakesregion.com

Bayswater owner Michelle Taft is excited about the growing number of authors attending this year's fair.
"The response over the past years has been so great that we have been able to grow each year. We started with five local children's authors and doubled in size during our second year. The feedback we received from customers and authors was that we should add some adult interest writers and books. With that in mind, a lot of time was spent during the quiet winter months reaching out to the writer and illustrator community to bring what we think will be a great summer event," said Taft.
