GROTON — Groton Historical Society will host a free NH Humanities Council program entitled "Harnessing History: On the Trail of New Hampshire's State Dog, the Chinook" on Sunday, October 5 at the Groton House located at 754 North Groton Road. The program will begin at 2 p.m.
This program looks at how dog sledding developed in New Hampshire and how the Chinook played a major role in this story. Explaining how man and his relationship with dogs won out over machines on several famous polar expeditions, Bob Cottrell will cover the history of Arthur Walden and his Chinooks, the State Dog of NH. Cottrell will be accompanied by his own Chinook, Tug. Refreshments will be served.
