Youth theater group to hold open house for students, parents

MEREDITH — On Thursday, Aug. 28, Inter-Lakes Theater Company will host an open house to share with students and parents the plans for the upcoming school year from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Inter-Lakes High School library.

Inter-Lakes Curriculum Coordinator and long time theater program leader Kathleen Hill will be leading the high school program, and will be joined this year by Winnipesaukee Playhouse co-founder Bryan Halperin who is coming in to work with the Middle-Tier students.

At the Open House interested participants will learn all about the exciting productions planned for the year as well as the time commitments and requirements for participation. Each group will have their own fall production, in the winter the 7-12th graders will do a musical review, and building on the success of last spring’s Peter Pan, Middle-Tier and High School students will work together on a big musical in the spring. The Variety Show will also be held in March.

“There are lots of opportunities for students to get involved this year onstage and behind-the- scenes and we can’t wait to get started,” says Hill. “Participating in the performing arts is a great way for kids to learn new skills, build confidence, and work with others towards a common goal.”

Halperin joins the team for the first time, though he is no stranger to working with students from his years at the Playhouse directing and writing for youth, community, and professional theatre productions. “As a Meredith resident I thought this was an exciting new way to get involved in, and give something back to, the community. I’m looking forward to working with Ms. Hill and the students and helping grow the ILTC drama program and increase the interest and awareness in theatre in the Lakes Region and what it can bring to a community.”

While more detail will be forthcoming at the meeting, the High School students will be auditioning for Arthur Miller’s classic drama The Crucible on Tuesday, September 2 at 2:15 p.m. and 7 p.m. to be performed around Halloween. The Middle-Tier students will audition on Tuesday, September 16 at 3:15 p.m. and 7 p.m. for the musical Too Hot For Santa, written by Halperin with music and lyrics by David Polansky. This musical was performed by The Winnipesaukee Playhouse Youth Ensemble in 2007 and played to sold out houses. It will be performed at Inter-lakes in November.

Snacks will be provided at the Open House. For more information contact Hill at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with any questions.
