LACONIA — August is the month of plenty here in the New Hampshire, and what better way to celebrate NH Eat Local Month than by visiting your local Farmers' Market during NH Farmers' Market Week, Aug 3-9.
Here in the Lakes Region we have several great markets to choose from, including the Thursday Laconia Main Street Marketplace and the Saturday Laconia Farmers' Market, celebrating its 40th year this year. You'll find fresh produce from arugula to zucchini, and everything in between. Other great food offerings include goat milk cheese, grass-fed beef, free-range eggs, artisan bread, and home-made jams and jellies, and more. Both markets have friendly, knowledgeable vendors who will share recipes and cooking tips to help you make the most of your purchases.
At the Thursday, August 7 market the Lakes Region Food Network is coordinating "Neighbor Share", a fresh food collection drive from 3-5 pm. Make a purchase of fresh produce, or bring it in from your own garden, and drop it off at the Savor the Season tent. Christine LeClair, Gleaning Coordinator for Belknap County and Martha Aucoin from the Christ Life Food Pantry will be there to accept your donations and deliver the food to our neighbors in need.
