GILFORD — The Laconia Elks Lodge 876 will host its annual Youth Bike Fest on Saturday, Aug. 16, from 3-5 p.m. at the lodge located at 17 Sugarbush Lane, off Route 11A (Gilford Avenue).
This program is designed to provide the needy youths in the Lakes Region with bicycles and helmets. Last year the Elks gave away 22 bikes to children ages 5-14. They hope to double that for this year.
The day of the event a child will receive a bike and helmet and ride a safety course. However, any youngster can come with their bike and learn road safety as well as learn basic maintenance of their bike even if they are not recieving a bike.
There are certain financial guidelines to be eligble for a free bike. Register in advance so that the Elks can ensure that they'll have a proper bicycle for the child.
This program is funded by the Laconia Elks 876 along with the Elks National Foundation which provides youth programs throughout the country incluing the Hoop Shoot, Soccer Shoot, Drug Awareness, Scholarships, in addition to events and services for veterans.
