Stand Up Laconia benefit at Muskrats game on Thursday

LACONIA – Stand Up Laconia will be holding an upcoming fundraiser at the Muskrats baseball game on Thursday, June 12 in Laconia. Adult tickets are $5 and a portion of proceeds will directly benefit Stand Up Laconia.

Stand Up Laconia (SUL) is a growing coalition of youth and adults who live, work, and/or go to school in Laconia. SUL's vision for the community is a decrease in youth alcohol and drug use and an increase in positive, healthy peer and family relationships. To succeed in this mission multiple community sectors have come together to tackle this growing issue.

Under the able leadership of current chairperson, Clare Persson, and in collaboration with key partners such as Laconia HS, Laconia PD and local substance abuse prevention agency, Partners in Prevention (, Stand Up Laconia has accomplished various initiatives in a short amount of time. These initiatives include: Displays at the LHS Homecoming, participation in Red Ribbon Week activities, feature presenter at the annual Better Together celebration dinner, collaboration with Huot Tech business students on a community Craft Fair, variety of community educational opportunities that occurred through presentations and radio spots, and most recently, taking the lead to coordinate sponsors for a week-long global education, service and performing arts program Up With People that's scheduled to come to Laconia in September.

One of Stand Up Laconia's (SUL) final school-year activities was the 2nd Annual Chem Free After Prom Party with much help from the administration at Laconia HS and the members of the Laconia PD as well as many chaperones and sponsors. This event provides a safe and fun "substance free" all-night party for students who have attended prom. It's a practice that many surrounding communities have adopted during prom season, and SUL is proud have brought it to Laconia.

Stand Up Laconia (SUL) is actively seeking new members and invites anyone who is interested to attend the coalition meeting at the next Better Together gathering at the LMS Library on Thursday, June 26 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. For more information about SUL, and for tips for parents and teens about substance abuse prevention, visit: or email This email address is being protected from spambots.
