LACONIA — Gathering Time, the New York based folk rock trio which delighted their audience last year, is returning by popular demand to the Belknap Mill in Laconia on Saturday, June 7 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $22 per person including refreshments and can be ordered at www.tbinh.org.
Gathering Time blends the sounds of a high energy Peter, Paul & Mary or a co-ed Crosby, Stills & Nash and couple this with the electricity of the Byrds, Joni Mitchell, the Eagles and America. No wonder they have captured center stage in the Northeast folk scene, already placing 19th among the top 100 national folk groups, according to the New York disc jockey survey. This year's program will be enhanced by guest artist Mara Levine whose golden voice has been creating beautiful interpretations of traditional and contemporary songs.
Temple B'Nai Israel of Laconia continues to bring amazing talent to the Lake Region. Adding human value and a further satisfying twist to the event, members of the temple have put together a program book for the occasion, compiling advertising from Lakes Region merchants and well-wishers. This activity makes it possible for the congregation to practice what is called Tzedakah, the Hebrew word for charitable giving.
Consequently, all of the net profits of the Gathering Time concert will go to Lakes Region Community Services (www.lrcs.org) whose long standing mission is to support individuals and their families living with developmental disabilities, with the goal of helping them increase the quality of their lives.
This nearly 40 year old community-centered social service agency's main office is located in the former Federal Building in downtown Laconia and combined with a northern office in Plymouth, serves families residing throughout Belknap and Southern Grafton Counties. A dynamic human services organization, LRCS and the LRCS Family Resource Center of Central NH offer essential programs and services to families and individuals in the Lakes Region from birth throughout their lifespan.
The organization received the 2013 award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management for its innovative work and effective leadership. Christine Santaniello, LRCS Executive Director says, "We so appreciate being the beneficiary of this wonderful musical event sponsored by Temple B'nai Israel. As an organization whose mission is to serve the community, it doesn't get any better than to have another charity in our community choose to generously donate their fundraising to support our mission."
