PLYMOUTH — A longtime Plymouth State University Administrative Assistant described as 'hard-working and dedicated,' was named the PSU's 2014 Distinguished Operating Staff Award recipient at a May 15 campus ceremony. Daphne Morin of Lamson Learning Commons was chosen from a field of five semi-finalists for the annual award.
The award was presented to Morin by PSU President Sara Jayne Steen. When asked about Morin Steen stated that she is a well-respected, popular employee who received glowing recommendations due to her knowledge of the University and work ethic.
"She's described as the glue that holds things together in the Lamson Learning Commons," Steen said. "People talk about all of the enormous work she has done, both personally and professionally. She is a both a leader and cheerleader, keeping communication flowing."
Morin, a Plymouth State employee since 1993, was nominated by her co-workers, who wrote in their recommendations, "she spends an incredible amount of time serving others in Lamson and around campus...she is adaptable, and can answer any question, from the major, overarching structural issue down to where you can find a Phillips head screwdriver."
She is a Bridgewater native and a first-generation college graduate; she earned a bachelor's in Communication Studies from PSU in 2012. She also donates a decorated tree annually for Plymouth's Festival of Trees fundraiser.
Morin said she was surprised when she was announced as the winner of this year's Distinguished Operating Staff award. "I'm amazed, this is such a surprise," said Morin. "It's a wonderful tribute that my co-workers have acknowledged me with this award and I appreciate that."
