Learn to paint historic homes at workshop held in Belmont Saturday

BELMONT — The techniques for painting historic homes will be explained at a program on Saturday, May 3, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Corner Meeting House, 16 Sargent St., in Belmont Village.

The program by experienced painted John Thompson is being presented by the New Hampshire Preservation Alliance in association with the Belmont Heritage Commission.

Thompson, of JLT Painting in Alexandria, will offer guidance and best-practice tips for painting older homes. Thompson will focus on tricks of the trade, learned over many years, in restoring and beautifying older homes and their finished surfaces. Both interior and exterior issues will be addressed, including removal of unwanted surface layers, and preparation for application of a new finish.

JLT Painting is involved in the restoration of the Town of Belmont's 1908 Bandstand. After Thompson's presentation at the Corner Meeting House, program attendees will walk over to the bandstand to discuss restoration efforts there.
