Workshop on special education laws offered on May 8

LACONIA — A free workshop: Suspension, Prevention, & Intervention will be offered Thursday May 8 from 6-8 p.m. at Lakes Region Community Service, 719 North Main St., Laconia.

The special education laws provide specific protections for children with disabilities who experience behavioral difficulties, particularly if those behaviors lead to suspension from school. This workshop provides an overview of the discipline procedures in the special education process, including manifestation determination, functional behavioral assessments and positive behavioral interventions. Participants will receive a "discipline toolbox" that includes strategies to encourage positive behaviors.
