LACONIA — The combination of an exciting diverse BYOB venue, genial hosts, and great talent have made Pitman's Freight room a destination point for regional comedy fans who once again filled the 94 New Salem St. music and function hall as 210 comedy fans turned out for the March 15 show starring national act Joe Yannetty.
This marked the third time Pitman's has topped the 200 mark for a comedy night including the last two shows in which every available seat was filled. Reservations for the April 19, "New York/Boston Comedy Clash" starring Steve Bjork and Corey Rodriguez as the main headliners, were being taken as people were leaving the March 15 show.
"It's been great," said Connie Mitchell, who along with husband Dick own and operate Pitman's. "All three comedians were great; the shows right along from the first one a year and a half ago up to now have all been great and every show is different. Everyone we talked to said they loved it (the March 15 show)."
As for April 19, both headliners will be making their first trip to Pitman's. Bjork has been entertaining comedy crowds for more than 20 years with his strange view of everyday life and a look at the past that virtually every one of his audience members has experienced.
Bjork reflects on childhood occurrences, being a father, and everyday life that receive the Bjork twist. Bjork has performed in Las Vegas, cruise ships, been seen on Comedy Central, as well as the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut, Hilarities in Orlando, FL and Cleveland, OH; TSM Comedy Club in Louisville, KY; Crackers in Indianapolis, IN, Penguins in Cedar Rapids, IA, and many, many others as well as being a New England favorite.
Rodrigues will be making his way up from New York City prior to heading out for a week at the Silver Legacy Resort in Reno. Rodrigues is a regular at Dangerfields in New York, Catch a Rising Star, Mohegan Sun, and every major club from L.A. to Boston.
Rodrigues is a previous winner of the Catch a Rising Star Comedy Competition, and was a previous winner of the Funniest Comic in New England Contest.
Upcoming music nights at Pitman's include, Thursday March 27, Boo Boo Groove Jazz Band; Friday March 28, Dance night with Brickyard Blues Band; Thursday April 3, Zeke Martin and the Oracle Jazz; Saturday, April 5, Rosemary Casey with Shaun England.
